Malawi-Mozambique:64 Ethiopian immigrants died of asphyxiation in a container

It is alleged that a total of 64 Ethiopian immigrants died of asphyxiation in a container that was being transported from Malawi to the Moatize district in Tete en route to South Africa.
The truck that transported the immigrants, by illegal signal, was intercepted by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, at about 2 am this Tuesday, at the Police Station of the Bascula de Mussacama.
The driver, when approached, said he was transporting goods, an answer that did not convince the police who asked for the container to be opened. The driver obeyed and the result was tragedy. Of the 78 immigrants, only 14 were still alive.
The driver who was immediately arrested tried to be surprised by the number of people he was carrying in the container. "In exchange for thirty thousand meticais, I was asked to transport 25 people to Moatize," said the driver, who was allegedly approached by a guide for illegal immigrants, hired in Malawi, by a person yet to be found out.
At this moment teams from the police, the National Criminal Investigation Service, migration and health are screening and later they will have to move the bodies to the city of Tete, given the lack of capacity of Morgue de Tete. The sad part of it all is that out authorities are aware of this kind of human trafficking but money has overpowered them.
